Tennessee doesn’t collect income taxes on salaries and wages. For the 2020 tax year, the state levied a 1% flat-rate tax on income earned from interest and dividends. Starting with the 2021 tax year, this tax is set to be repealed.

According to the Tax Foundation, Tennessee’s individual income tax rate is 1%. The state and local individual income tax collections per capita is $37 (ranked 43rd in the US). The state and local tax burden is 7.3% (ranked 47th in the US).
